Asthma General Ask about Asthma twitter.jpg.png

#AskAboutAsthma is 3- 9 October 2022. The campaign is about making simple changes to children and young people’s care that will make a big difference to how they experience their asthma. The aim is for every person involved in the care of a child or young person with asthma – from GPs and nurses to parents/carers, teachers, and youth group leaders – to know about the four asks that can help every person to manage their condition and live full, active lives.  To celebrate this week, The CYP Integrated Asthma /Wheeze Team have shared some educational resources from a recent CYP Asthma workshop aimed at primary care professionals.

Adolescence should be a time of healthy growth and development. Indeed, it is a critical period with significant physical, emotional, and mental changes. Despite robust physical health, adolescent risky behaviours may result in lifelong consequences as well as increased morbidity and mortality. The HEEADSSS review of systems is a tool to understand adolescent behaviour and assess risk-taking behaviours to provide appropriate interventions. Using the HEEADSSS review of systems is an effective way to engage in dialogue with teens and address many of the challenges faced by this age group it aims to promote screening as a routine part of health, education or social care interventions as well as to provide direct links to national and local resources.
